Digoin Canal Bridge

Digoin sits at the confluence of the Loire, the Arroux, and the Bourbince rivers in the heart of Burgundy — exactly where the Canal du Centre meets the Canal latéral à la Loire. The town's most iconic landmark is its canal bridge (pont-canal), built between 1832 and 1836 by engineer Jullien: 243 metres long with 11 arches, it carries the canal directly over the Loire and was one of the very first great canal bridges built in France. You can cross it on foot, by bike, or by boat, and it's one of the best short walks in the area, with sweeping views over the Loire — often called the last great wild river in Europe.
